Dedication

It is to the memory of the following that these lines of history are dedicated:
  • Woolenoy - the great Cherokee Indian Chief who first reigned over the land.
  • Cornelius Keith the first white man who ventured to settle in this Cherokee land.
  • Matthew Hendricks who first replaced the log house with a framed residence and dug the first well.
  • Dr. Bill Edens who replaced his log house that was burned by Sherman's troops with a house of hand molded brick made from clay on his farm.
  • William Sutherland who gave the community the name Pumpkintown. He opened his door to travelers who needed lodging and built the Table Rock Hotel for tourists from the low country.
